What is Design?

If design is going to be a part of this conversation on innovation, I figured it might be helpful to outline what exactly design is.  It's too big a question to answer in a short post, but IDEO has a nice chart that sums it up quite nicely. This image was modified for my class, but still functions to describe the design process.
